On July 1, HUFS Career Development Center invited US Ambassador Harry Harris to hold an online lecture on the topic of “International Affairs after COVID-19 and Korea-US Alliance.”

The lecture was held as part of the “Smart Online Life” lecture series by HUFS Career Development Center, for which Ambassador Harris showed a strong will to give a lecture for the students despite the COVID-19 situation.

A survey was given to the students prior to the lecture and to the question of “What is the most important factor for the Korea-US alliance?” the students answered “A strong military alliance for regional security,” and for the question of “What is the most pressing issue the two countries should resolve?” the students answered “The denuclearization of North Korea.”

130 students passionately participated in the online lecture, attentively listened to Ambassador Harris speak about the importance of Korea-US alliance, and engaged in a Q&A session afterwards.

Dean of Student Affairs and Human Resources Development Choi Ho-sung hosted the event and thanked Ambassador Harris by saying that the students haven’t had a chance to have a special lecture from a distinguished speaker since the COVID-19 situation.
Ambassador Harris graduated from the US Naval Academy and commanded the Indo-Pacific Command, and his father fought in the Korean War and lived in Korea and Japan until he retired. Ambassador Harris is a descendant of a Korean War veteran.
