HUFS’s English campus newspaper, The Argus, held the ‘The Argus Prize: English Essay Contest 2021’award ceremony at a lecture hall in Faculty Office Building II on May 28, 2021 (Fri.).

 

Launched in 1980 and marking its 31st anniversary this year, The Argus Prize is HUFS’s oldest and most prestigious English essay contest.

 

This year’s event received nearly 50 student essay submissions. Three of the submitted essays were selected as the finalists after rigorous screening by Kwon Ik-Soo, Professor Editor of The Argus; Professor Chris Kobylinski of HUFS Foreign Language Education Center and Professor Merrilee Brinegar of HUFS Graduate School of TESOL.

 

Ahn Jung-Hyun (entrance class of 2018) from HUFS Department of EICC was honored with the first prize for her essay “What Creates Justice: Punishment or Change?”. Yoo Seong-Bin (entrance class of 2020) from HUFS Division of International Studies and Hong Seung-Jae (entrance class of 2016) from HUFS Division of Economics won the second and third prizes for their essays “One Size Does Not Fit AI’ and "Fairness, an Idealistic Illusion: What’s the Alternative?”, respectively.
