̶  For the project, it establishes multilingual (KOR-ENG/CHIN) speech data and multilingual (KOR-ENG/CHIN/FREN/SPAN) colloquial translation corpora.

On June 18, 2021 (Fri.), HUFS Data Center (Director Yoon Seong-Woo) was selected by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) as the final candidate for its AI learning data establishment project. The KRW 4.2 billion project was put out for open bidding. With the ultimate goal of developing an AI-powered multilingual interpretation and translation device for different subject areas, the project collects multilingual (KOR-ENG/CHIN) speech data and builds a multilingual (KOR-CHIN/JAP/GERM/FREN/SPAN) colloquial corpus.

 

HUFS Data Center Director Yoon said, "This is our first achievement since the launch of our center early this year. Using this opportunity, we will leverage the unique strength of our institution and, at the same time, seek a new path forward in this era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.”

 

Before undertaking the project, HUFS Data Center signed a business agreement with Hancom Intelligence, Accufly.AI, Skelter Labs and Spirink on the 18th. The project, to be completed by December 31, 2021 (Fri.), will be led by Han Seung-Hee, Senior Researcher of HUFS Data Center and Specially-Appointed Professor of HUFS Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation (GSIT).

 

To ensure the systematic and professional execution of the project, HUFS Data Center also entered into an agreement last May with HUFS GSIT (Dean Han Won-Deok) and HUFS Center for Interpreting and Translation (Director Hwang Ji-Yeon). Under the agreement, the three HUFS institutions will join hands to build the multilingual data and reinforce the existing HUFS education courses for industry-academia-government collaboration.

 

As part of the project, HUFS Data Center will conduct campus-wide data research, compiling multilingual digital communication data and corpora and opening nine SDL Trados Live Teams, worth KRW 70 million in total, to students. This is expected to give an encouraging boost to HUFS’s Big Data-powered education and research endeavors.
