The Center for Diplomatic and Trade Studies under the umbrella of the Language & Diplomacy (LD) Division, as well as the Language & Trade (LT) held the 7th Diplomatic Forum at HUFS Seoul Campus on December 4, 2017. The Center was originally named the Center for Diplomatic Studies. However, it was renamed as it is and had an opening ceremony on the same day. The Center aims to serve as a place where students can acquire academic learning and practical experiences in the field of diplomatic and economic and trade policies. The Center is established to promote exchanges among government officers, decision-makers, and scholars in the area of diplomacy and trade and thereby help students better understand the field.
At the opening ceremony of the Center, HUFS President Kim In-chul gave his congratulatory message. Japanese Ambassador to South Korea, Yasumasa Nagamine, delivered a keynote speech on a triangular security cooperation in Northeast Asia. Former U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Kathleen Stephens and National Assembly member and former chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Unification Park Jin participated in a forum following the opening ceremony. Amid growing instability in Northeast Asia due to North Korea's continued provocations, the representatives of the three nations discussed future cooperative measures in detail during the forum.
