HUFS Institute of Latin American Studies(Director Jung Kyeong-won) has been selected for the HK+(Humanities Korea) Project jointly supported by the Ministry of Education, and the National Research Foundation of Korea. The Institute of Latin American Studies was among the 34 university institutes that applied for the project and was named the recipient of the 2019 Humanities Korea Project.
Under the project, the Institute of Latin American Studies will be awarded a research grant of KRW 1.25 billion per year or up to KRW 8.75 billion over the next seven years as well as matching funds from HUFS amounting to KRW 300 million, for a total of KRW 9.05 billion.
The Institute, under the agenda of “Latin America, Platform for a Transition in Civilization in the 21st Century: from Industrial Civilization to Ecological Civilization,’ is expected to combine humanities, social science, and natural science together to explore relations between nature and the environment of Latin America and apply the lessons learned to Korea. That is, to discover and identify an alternative way of thinking in Latin America to overcome contemporary environmental issues.
