First Lady Anna Komorowska of Poland visited HUFS Global Campus. She attended the opening ceremony of the 3rd International Academic Conference for Department of Polish in Three East Asian Countries (Korea, China, and Japan) held at the Center for International Area Studies at 10:00 am, Thursday, October 25, 2012 and made a congratulatory speech.
She emphasized in her speech that Poland has especially great pride in its language and literature since the country has endured in the face of so many foreign invasions through history. Being at the crossroads of Europe, Poland has naturally been attacked from all sides at one time or another. The First Lady also praised and expressed appreciation to the scholars who are working so hard to spread the Polish language and literature in Asian countries.
Following the opening ceremony, she watched a special performance prepared by "Mazurka," the traditional dance club of the Department of Polish of HUFS, and a play by students from the Department of Polish. She showed great interest and affection toward the students.
This academic conference, held in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Department of Polish of HUFS, was attended by 25 scholars of Polish language and literature including Chair of Department of Polish of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Tokimasa Sekiguchi, and Chair of Department of Polish of Beijing Foreign Studies University Li Jintao. They convened to build pride in studying minority languages and share concerns on the limits of such studies.
