On Sunday, May 19, 2013, HUFS hosted a conference at Lotte Hotel in Seoul, Sogong-dong with heads of overseas diplomatic missions who graduated from HUFS and have dedicated themselves to promote Korea’s national interest in other countries.

The participation of 17 ambassadors including Yoo Jung-hee, Ambassador to Portugal, and senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) whose rankings were as high as Director General or above, including Yun Duck-min, Chancellor of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA), was a testament to the elevated profile of the school within the Ministry.

In his welcome speech, President Park Chul of HUFS proudly described the school’s growing profile at home and abroad as a global university thanks to U.S. President Barack Obama’s special lecture on campus, and asked for the active support of the alumni at the Ministry to make the Language and Diplomacy Department, launching next year, a new milestone for the school’s development.

Chairman of the HUFS Alumni Association Gweon Sun-han emphasized in his congratulatory remarks that 110,000 alumni at home and 10,000 alumni abroad were the pillars of the school while those at MOFA were the linchpin of the Association.

The top diplomats and the Ministry officials at the event all agreed that their alma mater’s developing profile was felt stronger abroad than in Korea thanks to the dedication of senior alumni, vowing to make efforts to contribute to the school’s proud tradition so that future alumni can enjoy the school’s reputation.

President Park Chul, Vice President of Seoul Campus Kim Hae-ryong, Vice President of the External Affairs and Development Chung Kyung-won and other executives from the school attended the event along with Yang In-mo, Director of Dongwon Educational Foundation, Seok Tong-youn, Secretary General of the Northeast Asian History Foundation and a former MOFA employee, Visiting Professor Kim Eui-taek, Chair Professor Park Jin and Lottel Hotel CEO Song Yong-deok.
