On September 10, 2013, HUFS signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Republic of Korea Air Force to nurture foreign language specialists within the Air Force’s ranks and to conduct preliminary training of agents who will serve as military attaches.
At the signing, HUFS President Park Chul and Air Force Chief of Staff General Sung Il-hwan agreed that the two institutions should cooperate to respond to an increasingly globalized security environment and to enhance the capability of the Korean Air Force.
According to the MOU, beginning in 2014 the Air Force will select outstanding HUFS students as Air Force scholarship recipients and award each of them four-year scholarships. Upon graduation, the scholarship cadets will serve as Air Force officers.
In addition, HUFS agreed to assign specialized faculty to conduct intensive training, tailored to the languages and cultures of relevant countries, for Air Force officers appointed as military attaches. It also agreed to provide support to Air Force personnel who apply for FLEX, the foreign language exam system managed by HUFS.
