안녕하십니까?

개강 이후 지금까지 어려운 여건 속에서도 원격수업을 성실히 수강하고 있는 학생 여러분께 진심으로 감사드립니다.

 

그동안 학교는 학생들이 건강하고 안전하게 학업에 정진할 수 있도록 학사일정 변경 등 다양한 학내 조치를 통해 코로나19에 적극적으로 대응해왔습니다. 지금까지 외대인 모두의 건강과 안전이 유지되고 있는 것은 학생 여러분의 협조 덕분입니다.

 

지난 4월 3일 학교는 공지를 통해 ‘원격수업을 코로나19 상황 안정 시까지 계속 진행하고, 대면수업은 가능하다고 판단될 경우 개시일로부터 약 2주 전 공지’한다고 알린 바 있습니다. 최근 2주간 일일 코로나19 감염자 수가 10명 내외로 발생하고 있으며, 정부도 5월 6일부터 사회적 거리두기를 ‘생활 속 거리두기’로 전환하겠다는 계획을 발표했습니다. 그러나 학교는 코로나19가 감염력이 강하여 재유행할 수도 있다고 보고 매우 신중한 입장을 견지하고 있습니다.

 

이러한 상황에 유의하면서 학교는 학생들의 건강과 안전을 최우선으로 한다는 원칙 하에 4/27(월) 교무위원회의 심의를 거쳐 원격수업을 계속 진행하되,

① 5/4(월)부터 수강생 20명 이하 대학원 강의의 대면수업을 허용하고,

② 5/11(월)부터는 과목의 특성상 불가피하다고 판단될 경우 학부와 대학원 공히 수강생 30명 이하 강의에 한해 대면수업을 제한적으로 허용합니다.

 

대면수업 허용에 따른 조치를 아래와 같이 안내합니다.

 

1. 대면수업은 제한적으로 허용되며 사전 등록 절차를 거칩니다.

➀ 실험/실습/실기/회화 과목 등 강의의 형태나 성격상 대면수업이 불가피하고, 담당교수와 수강생의 합의 하에, 거리두기가 가능한 강의실이 확보된 경우에만 허용됩니다. 5월 6일(수)까지 담당교수가 대면수업등록신청서를 학사종합지원센터/대학원 교학처로 제출하면 교무처장/대학원 교학처장이 이를 검토하여 통보합니다.

➁ 담당교수는 수강생이 건강과 안전을 이유로 대면수업에 참석하지 못할 경우, 과제물을 부여하거나 원격수업자료 등을 제공하여 수업결손을 보완하고 학점에 불이익이 없도록 배려할 것입니다. 이와 관련하여 대면수업불참사유서(일종의 유고결석계) 양식이 학교 홈페이지 학사공지사항 게시판을 통해 제공될 것입니다.

➂ 수강생 30명이 넘는 중대형 강의는 원격수업으로 계속 진행합니다.

➃ 해외 체류 외국인학생의 경우, 출결 처리, 수업결손 보완, 평가 등이 아래 기준에 따라 이루어집니다.

 

2. 해외 체류 외국인학생 대다수가 자국 내 이동제한, 항공편 구입 불가, 비자 발급 지연, 의무 자가격리 등의 이유로 입국에 어려움을 겪고 있습니다. 이에 따라 대면수업 전환 강의를 수강하는 미입국 학생을 위해 담당교수에게 다음과 같은 조치를 취할 것을 요청했습니다.

① 수업일수의 2분의 1 범위 내 유고결석이 인정된다는 점을 고려하여 출결을 처리하도록 권고했습니다.

② 5/11(월)부터 대면수업에 직접 출석할 수 없는 외국인학생들을 위해, 1) 대체과제 부여, 2) 대면강의 녹음/녹화 제공, 3) 대면강의 시 실시간 화상수업 병행 중 한 가지를 선택하여 실시하도록 요청했습니다.

③ 기말고사는 온라인(이메일 등)으로 진행하거나 과제물로 대체할 수 있습니다.

 

3. 기말고사는 15주차(6/22(월)~26(금))에 실시하고, 필요할 경우 보강은 16주차(6/29(월)~7/3(금))에 이루어집니다. 앞서 공지한 성적 절대평가, 중간시험 자율시행 등의 조치는 변경사항이 없습니다.

 

4. 대면수업의 제한적 허용에 따라 학교는 필요한 방역조치를 충실하게 이행할 것입니다.

① 강의실 내 마스크 착용 의무화, 수업 중 수시 환기, 사회적 거리두기 등 정부의 방역지침을 준수하겠습니다.

② 도서관, 학생식당 등은 5/11(월)부터 이용 가능합니다.

 

향후 코로나19 상황의 추이를 지켜보면서 추가적인 결정사항이 있을 경우, 신속히 공지하도록 하겠습니다. 다시 한번 학생 여러분의 이해와 협조를 구하면서, 하루빨리 외대인 모두가 건강한 모습으로 푸르른 교정에서 자유를 마음껏 누릴 수 있는 날이 오기를 고대합니다.

Limited Resumption of Face-to-Face Classes

 

Dear HUFS Students,

 

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have been participating in classes remotely, despite the difficult circumstances.

 

Throughout the semester, HUFS has taken numerous measures, such as delaying the start of the school year, to protect students’ health and safety. Thanks to your cooperation, the health and safety of all HUFS’ community members has been maintained thus far.

 

On April 3rd, the school notified all campus stakeholders that online classes would continue until the COVID-19 situation stabilizes, and if deemed possible, that the announcement regarding resumption of face-to-face classes would be given out about two weeks in advance of being resumed. Over the last two weeks, the number of new COVID-19 cases has been reported at about 10 per day, and the government has announced that social distancing measures should be maintained at least until May 6th. However, the university is proceeding with caution to resume normal classes considering how contagious the novel corona virus is.

 

As of Monday, April 27th, HUFS has decided to continue predominantly having online classes after much deliberation by the Academic Affairs Committee since the health and safety of students is our top priority. Nevertheless, a limited resumption of face-to-face classes will be allowed. From Monday, May 4th, face-to-face classes for graduate students in classes with 20 or fewer students will be permitted. From Monday, May 11th, graduate and undergraduate face-to-face classes with 30 or fewer students will be permitted if considered appropriate depending on the specifics of the individual class.

 

Guidelines for Attending Face-to-Face Classes

1. Face-to-Face classes will have limited availability and are subject to pre-registration

➀ Due to the nature of certain classes and their lectures such as experiments, subject matter practice, conversation, etc., face-to-face classes are permitted but only with mutual agreement between course instructor and registered students; further a classroom must also be available that will permit physical distancing.

➁ If students do not wish to attend face-to-face classes due to health and safety concerns, the course instructor will provide alternative assignments or provide course materials online. In such a situation, you can fill out a form for excused absence that will be provided through HUFS homepage’s bulletin board.

➂ Medium to large classes with 30 or more students will continue to be taught online.

➃ For foreign students who are currently located abroad, attendance, coursework, and testing will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines outlined below.

 

2. Foreign Students Located Abroad

Since there are many foreign students currently abroad faced with difficulties returning to Korea due to travel restrictions within their home countries, limited flight availability, delays in visa issuance, and mandatory self-isolation upon return to Korea, we have requested that course instructors take the following steps for students who are unable to enter Korea and resume face-to-face classes:

① For this semester only, HUFS has recommended that the instructors excuse absences up to half of the entire semester without penalties.

② From Monday, May 11th for international students who cannot physically attend class, they should be 1) assigned an alternative task; 2) be provided with a recording of the class lecture; or 3) have access to class by means of livestreaming software (e.g. WebEx).

③ Final exams can be conducted online (email, online tests, etc.) or replaced with alternative assignments.

 

3. Finals are scheduled for the 15th week of the semester (Monday, June 22nd through Friday, June 26th). If necessary, remaining makeup classes may be held during the following week (week 16th) from Monday, June 29th through Friday, July 3rd.

 

4. Due to the limited scope of face-to-face classes, HUFS will still properly implement necessary distancing measures.

① We will continue to comply with the government’s distancing guidelines such as the mandatory usage of face-masks in the classroom, frequent ventilation of the classroom during class time, and maintaining physical distance.

② The library and student cafeteria will be opened and available for use from Monday, May 11th.

 

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will notify you immediately if there are any further changes to be made. Once again, we ask for your understanding and cooperation during these unprecedented times. We look forward to the day when all of HUFS community can freely enjoy a beautiful and vibrant campus.
