오늘은 새로운 학기가 시작되는 날이지만, 코로나19 확산으로 인해 학생들은 물론, 교강사, 직원들의 안전에 대한 우려가 아직 해소되지 않고 있어 마음이 무겁습니다.

우리 대학은 2020학년도 2학기 개강을 앞두고 학생들의 안전 확보와 학업성취도 제고를 동시에 고려하여 ‘대면/비대면 수업 병행’ 원칙과 ‘정부의 방역지침 강화에 따른 단계별 수업방식 전환(Switch 1 on, Switch 2 on)’ 계획을 확정한 바 있습니다. 하지만 코로나19의 갑작스러운 확산에 선제적으로 대응하기 위해 지난 8월 19일 개강 후 2주간 전면 비대면 수업(Switch 2 on) 시행을 결정하고 이를 공지한 바 있습니다.

우리 대학은 현재 정부가 ‘수도권 2단계 사회적 거리두기 방역 강화(2.5단계)’ 조치를 시행하고 있는 점을 고려하여, 전면 비대면 수업 기간을 10월 4일까지 연장하고자 합니다. 단, 코로나19 확산이 진정되어 정부가 방역 조치를 2단계 이하로 하향 조정할 경우, 우리 대학의 수업방식도 이에 따라 재조정할 계획입니다. 이 경우 학생 및 교강사의 불편을 최소화하기 위해 가급적 시행 2주 전에 공지하도록 하겠습니다.

가변적인 코로나19 확산 상황에서 학생들의 안전과 학업을 보장할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠습니다.

Title: Extension of Online Classes until October 4th

Dear students,

We hope you have been healthy and well this summer.

Although today marks the start of a new semester, concerns about the safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff, due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, have unfortunately not been resolved.

Even before the start of the semester, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) was considering ways to guarantee student safety and improve conditions for your academic success. We settled on the principle of ‘blending face-to-face instruction with online simulcasts’ in addition to preparing plans for ‘Switch 1 on, Switch 2 on’ in conjunction with the government’s guidelines for social distancing Nevertheless, we decided to pre-emptively respond to the sudden spread of COVID-19 cases by implementing full-scale online classes (Switch 2 on) at the start of the semester, which was announced on August 19th.

Since the government has currently implemented stricter social distancing measures in the metropolitan area (Step 2.5), we are also extending the duration of full-scale online classes until Sunday, October 4th. If the amount of COVID-19 cases are reduced and the government lowers social distancing policies below Stage 2, we plan to similarly modify how classes are delivered. Should this occur, we will notify you two weeks in advance of the changes in order to minimize inconvience to students and faculty.

We will do our best to ensure the safety of our campus community, and maintain students’ academic continuity as the COVID-19 situation unfolds.
