On May 23 (Thu), HUFS JMCE co-hosted the Model European Union 2019 with the EU Delegation to Korea, Yonsei-EU JMCE and KU-KIEP-SBS EU Centre. The MEU 2019 was held at the Obama Hall, HUFS and the event was attended by more than 300 including high school students from eight schools in Seoul, college students and citizens, as well as delegates and chairpersons from more than 20 universities in Korea and Europe.

At 10 am, the opening ceremony was followed by a welcoming speech by Sihong Kim, Director of HUFS JMCE and a keynote speech by Joel Hivonnet, Deputy Ambassador. During the morning session, on this year's agenda, 'How can all European Union Member States agree on on Migration Policy?' student delegates engaged in heated debates. 

At 2pm, the plenary session resumed and discussion was held to decide on the Council Conclusion.  The conclusion included five provisions to prevent illegal immigrants, strengthening border security and sharing of information with each other, as well as details of each provision. After the chairman's announcement of the final conclusion, student delegates decided whether to pass the Council conclusion through the Qualified Majority Vote (QMV). More than 16 of 28 student delegates voted for the conclusion, and the Council conclusion on the agenda was passed while meeting the conditions needed to pass the conclusion, with more than 78% of the population in the countries in favor.

At the closing and awards ceremony, Sukman Yoon, Vice President of HUFS, and Michael Reiterer, EU Ambassador, delivered congratulatory speeches. Student President of the European Commission announced the results fo the MEU 2019. The recipients of the MEU 2019 include Sera Yoon (Delegate of Germany, International Studies Department of Korea Univ.), Batycka Barbara Zofia (Delegate of Poland, Ewha Womans Univ.), Eunji Kim (Delegate of Finland, International Studies Department of Korea Univ.), Dongyeon Park (Delegate of Bulgaria, EICC Department of HUFS), Gunhak Lee (Delegate of Denmark, Department of Political Science and Diplomacy of Yonsei Univ.).
