On July 5-9, HUFS JMCE attended the 2019 European Union Studies Association Asia Pacific (EUSAAP) annual conference, which was held at Fudan University in Shanghai, China under the theme of <New Leadership, New Priories- The EU in 2019>.

 



 

The annual conference was attended by about 150 Asian and European scholars and master's and doctorate graduate students. The HUFS JMCE participated in by organizing an individual session under the theme of "Korea-EU Relations." The EU Ambassador, Michael Leiterer chaired the session and Prof. Si-hong Kim (New EU Leadership and the Future of Korea-EU Relations), Prof. Bong-chul Kim (Legal issues on the Korea-EU Crisis Management Operations Agreement), Prof. Yoo-duk Kang (Comparative Analysis of East Asian Investment in Central and East Europe: Past Trend and New Development) and Prof. Moo-sung Lee (Myongji University, The EU and Korean Strategic Partnership: Interests, Norems and Self Identity) presented their respective papers.

 



 

At the Graduate Student workshop, Hye-ryon Park (A new diversity of the European society and further stpes of the EU, embracement or exclusion), Ji-min Shim (EU Cybersecurity and Hybrid Threat), Joo-young Kim (The Future of EU energy policy after Brexit- focused on EU energy security policy), Yumi Woo (A new strategy of EU security without Britain: which way should the EU go?) and Hye-jeong Cho (The Fourth Industrial Revolution and a possibility to digital fragmentation among EU member states) presented their papers.

 


 

Across the conference, extensive exchanges of views were made among European and Asian scholars, and graduate students of the HUFS Graduate School of International Area Studies (GSIAS) have broadened their international outlook. 

 


 

Also on the evening of the 8th, at a dinner hosted by Joon-yong Lee, president of CGRC, a major alumni of Shanghai, class of 81, a discussion on the three-way cooperation between Korea, China and Japan to bridge the gap between theory and reality took place.

 

 

The 2020 EUSAAP annual conference is scheduled to be held at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.
