Epilogue for 2018-1 HUFS TESOL

If you are reading my epilogue at HUFS Tesol at this moment, you are probably gathering information and searching for reviews to help you decide the best Teol educational center amongst many choices. As you may know already, one of the well-known values of HUFS Tesol is that HUFS itself is the best foreign language educational institution in Korea with over 60 years of distinguished history.

However, there are much more to that in HUFS Tesol which one cannot imagine without having deeply engaged in. So for those who are curious to know more than ‘timeline and facts’ about HUFS Tesol, it is my honor to share a glimpse of my experiences and the valuable learnings I earned here.

First of all, HUFS Tesol was not just about learning teaching techniques. It was a whole course of agonizing how to make good language lessons while maximizing ‘student to student’ interactions. We had to deeply concern about the responsibilities as a good language teacher. It was a course that endless challenged us to strive for better gains.

For me and my classmates in the course, there was not a single class that we could sit back and relax. Before each class, we had to be fully prepared with the nights of struggling with homework. During the first 5-6 weeks, we deep-dived into the pages of thick textbooks wondering if we can ever finish the reading before coming to the class. When we were getting used to it, there came the lesson plans and micro-teachings. Every lesson plan and micro-teaching required us to consider a full page of checklists we should not miss for every stage. But we were always having fun in classes because we had to also sing, dance, and race against each other as we were the young learners.

Truly, there were times when I wanted to give up. But I survived, not because of my talents but because of those who were with me at HUFS Tesol. So I would like to introduce the most valuable treasures you can meet at HUFS Tesol.

First, the professors. We are all lucky to meet these wonderful, passionate, and brilliant professors who are more than willing to help us reach the goals. They are not the teachers who just sit behind the desks and grade your exam papers. If you have been anticipating the teachers who are enthusiastic and serious about their work, who are truly experienced and are willing to share what they have built on, and make you feel confident just because you know they believe in you, then, HUFS Tesol would be the right place for you.

Second, the staffs. The staffs of HUFS Tesol are always there to listen to and support you. From the orientation to the day of final practicum, there was not a day of worry or discomfort because they are the super heroes with smiles on their faces to help you find the best possible solutions. Job fairs, special lectures, internship programs and exchanges classes are made effective and meaningful only because of them.

And lastly, the classmates. Be excited to meet the new valuable encounters in HUFS Tesol. Are you shy or afraid of talking with new people? I’d say ‘No worries’ because from the Day 1, you will be busy participating in ice-breaking games to get to know each other. You can never succeed alone in HUFS Tesol. It is the teamwork and fellowship that makes HUFS Tesol more delightful. Learn from each other. Everyone has their own potentials that the others don’t have. Even after you get Tesol diploma, you can continue the professional conversation with your colleagues. One of my classmates mentioned that what she’s going to miss the most from HUFS Tesol is the sincere advice from our classmates.

Before coming to HUFS Tesol, we are probably all from different backgrounds.

Some of us would be here to deepen the devotion for secondary language education and some of us would be here to pursue a new dream. But when we arrive at the course, we all have a common goal of becoming an expertise in this field. The 16 weeks at HUFS Tesol are tough and challenging but these are also the times most memorable that through the enjoyment and perseverance will lead us to a proud new label as ‘HUFS Tesol graduates.’

Thank you.
