HUFS JMCE hosted an international seminar on the theme of “Main Challenges for Europe and for the EU in the present juncture” in the Conference room on the main bldg and invited Ambassador Ferdinando Nelli Feroci, the President of IAI, on 3:00 pm., Tuesday, November 15.

IAI(Istituto Affari Internationali, https://www.iai.it/en), as the largest think tank in the field of international politics and security in Italy, is in exchange with the Korea National Diplomatic Academy. President Nelli Feroci is a former diplomat who served as ambassador to the EU and director-general of the European Union at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has been serving as the president of IAI for ten years. This visit to Korea was selected as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ ‘Strategic Key Figure Invitation Project’ and is scheduled for November 13-19. Meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Unification, Northeast Asian History Foundation, Korea Foundation, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Korea National Diplomatic Academy, KIEP/KDI, Asan Institute for Policy Studies, and the Embassy of Italy in Korea are expedted as official schedules.

In this seminar, lecture was made on the multiple problems that Europe has been facing since the 2008 financial crisis, such as the immigration/refugee crisis, Brexit, Covid 19, and the revival of geopolitics and energy crisis due to the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine. An hour-long Q&A session followed with undergraduate and graduate students from the HUFS GSIAS. Choi Byung-Jin, head of the Department of Italian Studies, joined the event as a co-host.
