2013학년도 후기 수료식 연설문

 

임소영 수료자 (2013학년도 후기, 22기)

 

Here we are after passing through a short, but a tough tunnel.

At the beginning of this course, the tunnel was like a very dark and long journey to me because I had totally different career, and moreover I had little experience in English education. So, actually I didn’t believe that I could really become an English teacher even after I complete this course. And I thought I have to learn ‘how to teach English’ more in another institute to become a real teacher. It might be true. But now I realized what the old saying means, ‘from small beginnings came great things’.

 

From the beginning, I only had one important thing in order to pass this course; the passion for learning. You know well about the intrinsic motivation for the new life. I planted the seeds with the passion and absorbed the nutrition I needed from my wonderful professors and classmates.

 

For the last four months, I’ve learned the important things for teaching English and also so much about my field, my interests, myself, and so on.

The biggest thing I learned—and again, I’m probably speaking for a lot of us here—is that we only get one trip around this rock, so we might as well enjoy it.

‘The joy of learning’. That’s exactly what I hope to teach for my future students.

 

Many of us know exactly what the next step will be. Others, like me, will tell you, we have no idea yet.  Whatever we decide, most of us will agree that HUFS TESOL was the important moment in our life, and the best place to foster our mind and knowledge in teaching English.

 

Thanks to all kind people I’ve met during my time in this course. To my family who stood by me no matter what. To administrative team who supported us kindly. Special thanks to professors who tried to instill in us a passion for learning and teaching. And to classmates who studied and helped together.

 

Standinng at the unfinished road of studies, we know that teaching is learning and there’re still many tasks to be done to become a good teacher. But indeed, now we went over one mountain! I’m sure most of us will remember this day and the last four months whenever we teach our students.
