JMCE co-hosted a joint academic conference with the Jeju Peace Institute on January 15, 2018, on the topic of "EU-East Asia Relations - from Inter-Regionalism Perspective".  

At the Conference, President Seo Jung Ha (former Ambassador to Hungary), Dr. HAN Intaek, Dr. YI Seong-Woo, Dr. DOH Jong Yoon and Dr. Gi Jeeyoon from JPI, as well as Director KIM Si Hong, Deputy Director Kim Bong Chul (Division of International Studies), Professor Ohn Daewon (GSIAS, Chariman of European Union Studies in Korea), Professor Kang Yoo-Duk (Department of Language & Trade) with JMCE research assistants attended the event. The discussion covered theories and methodologies of inter-regional cooperation beyong comparative regionalism, and covered the inter-relations of the European Union, East Asia, and ASEAN as case studies.

On January 16, JMCE held a workshop, going over the activities of JMCE for the first year and half, and organizing plans for 2018. Moreover, in commemoration of 40 Years of European Studies in HUFS, JMCE also analyzed 250 theses for masters' and doctorates' programme focusing on Europe and sought to improve the curricula of EU Studies at both undergraduate and graduate level.
