Research Institutes

The Center for International Area Studies occupies a leading position in the national drive toward globalization in Korea. True to its reputation as the largest international area studies institute in Korea, it comprises the complex of the Research Hall, the Lecture Hall and the Accommodation Building erected as three separate buildings with a total floor space of about 20,000 m2 on a total land space of 50,000 m2. The Center buildings are located on the Yong-in Campus.

The complex hosts 22 research institutes covering dozens of countries. The Center also runs a wide variety of programs catering to different needs of diverse groups. It offers such courses as the "International Specialist in Regional Studies" for business people, "Korean Culture" for foreigners interested in Korean language and culture, "World Cultural Tour" for the general public and "Video Journalism" for students and teaching staff.

Through the process of active interdisciplinary exchanges between the Graduate School of International Area Studies and the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation, the effective and smooth running of the training programs is ensured.
The research institutes forming the Center for International Area Studies fall into two general categories: those for area studies on particular regions and those for comparative studies on various subjects which are directly or indirectly related to international studies.
