An introduction to basic French, the course lays the foundation
for learning French through instruction of its pronunciation,
grammar, and sentence structure.
* Elementary French Conversation (1), (2)
Studies basic conversation skills in French by developing
listening, comprehension, and speaking, using recently
published textbooks.
* French Exercise (1), (2)
Students will practice what they have learned in beginning
French reading through pronunciation practice and role-plays.
Through this process, they will develop their ability to
respond in real-life situations. The core focus of this
course is to apply theories to practical use.
* Training in French Reading (1), (2)
This course will give students the opportunity to practice
and understand French texts by integrating the knowledge
gained in the beginning course of French reading, practice,
and conversation.
* Readings in Intermediate French (1), (2)
An extension of the 1st year Readings in Elementary French
course, students delve deeper into French grammar and develop
skills to comprehend more advanced level texts.
* Intermediate French Conversation (1), (2)
Studies basic conversation skills in French by developing
listening comprehension, and speaking, using recently published
textbooks.
* Intermediate French Composition (1), (2)
Focuses on developing the ability to write for any purpose
or situation. Students work to compose well-flowing sentences
by properly utilizing correct grammar and practical sentence
structure.
* 19th Century French Literature
Studies the various 19th century thought and selected literary
works representative of the period. The early 19th century
romanticism, transcendentalism, realism, naturalism, and
symbolism are studied in sequence.
* Advanced French Conversation (1), (2)
Using recently published textbooks, the course focuses
on developing listening comprehension and speaking skills
to enhance competency in verbal communication.
* French Society and Culture
Using relevant texts and visual & audio materials,
this course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding
and knowledge about the various phenomena and systems of
current French society as well as culture such as the culinary
culture, festival culture, and cultural heritages.
* Studies in French Curriculum
Examines the impact of modern linguistics, psycholinguistics
and sociolinguistics on French language education and the
development process of recent pedagogies. Attempts to develop
appropriate pedagogies for French teaching in Korea.
* Methods of French Pronunciation
In this course, students will learn the phonological structure
of French and how to teach French pronunciation, which
will benefit them when they become French teachers.
* Education of French Composition (1), (2)
Of the four functions of language, this course explores
ways to improve writing skills and practices various self-expression
techniques, using high school textbooks as class material.
* Introduction to French Linguistics
Focuses primarily on understanding linguistic concepts
by introducing students to French linguistic theories.
* 20th Century French Literature
Selects representative 20th century writers or literary
works for study.
* Field Work
Based on the principles of language learning, this course
teaches various methods of teaching French, curriculum
planning and analysis, etc. Students visit and observe
actual education sites and prepare to be teachers armed
with both theories and practices.
* French Textbook Studies & Teaching Methods
Conducts comparative analysis of current high school French
textbooks to identify those suitable for use in Korea.
Using current textbooks, students explore the most effective
way of teaching French by performing in an open class.
Includes a practicum.
* French Speaking Culture
This course looks at the concept, history, continental
status, relevant international organizations of Francophonie
which means regions and communities that speak French and
inquires into the impact and characteristics of French
culture in French-speaking countries and regions including
France's overseas territories and Canada¡¯s Quebec.
* Studies on French Semantics
Focuses on gaining a better understanding of the world
of semantics through the study of French. Through related
text readings, the course studies the relationship between
language, the external world and man, the power of language,
and the problem of semantic interpretation based on speaker-listener
rela- tionship.
* Special Lecture on French Literature
Focuses on reviewing and gaining a comprehensive understanding
of the correlation between literature, ideology, and arts
through the study of French literature by century and genre.
* Logical Thinking and Writing in French
Students practice engaging in logical thinking and writing
such thoughts in French. Through this practice, students¡¯
writing capabilities are enhanced.
* French Sentences & Text
This course increases the understanding of French by starting
from sentence-level interpretation through sentence analysis
and arriving at text-level interpretation through text
analysis. Furthermore, it encourages students to take an
interest in the study of the meaning of language activities.
* French and Education of Knowledge & Information
This course will examine the status of French in the modern
knowledge and information era. Students will acquire the
knowledge required to process information in French.
* French for FLEX
This course primarily practices solving questions in preparation
for FLEX.
* Seminar on
French Literature
Based on a general knowledge of French literature, this
course investigates the inner workings of a piece of literature
through analysis and interpretation of selected literary
works. This requires an understanding of the methods of
analysis and organization of thought to enable a logical
compilation and classification of results.
* French through Multimedia
In line with developments in the knowledge and information-based
society, students will learn how to teach French using
multimedia. After reviewing ways to create appropriate
learning environments and the roles of a teacher, they
will look at use of CD-ROM, documents gathered through
Internet search, as well as audio and video media. Students
will then design a curriculum.
* Pedagogy of French Conversation
One of the most effective ways to acquire communication
capabilities is conversation education. This course explores
how to implement conversation education in the class environment
and applies such methods with actual materials.
