Course Descriptions

Multimedia German Education (1)
In this introductory course, students will learn how to use various multimedia equipment when teaching German as a foreign language and to select the appropriate equipment according to the content area. Students will also have the opportunity to practice using the equipment.

Elementary German (1)
To build basic skills in German, this course cultivates German comprehension and expression skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Texts consisting of about 1,000 basic words are selected and students are thoroughly familiarized with grammar to understand sentence structuring.

Elementary German Conversation (1), (2)
Students cultivate German conversation skills based on what they learned in Elementary German 1,2.

Multimedia German Education (2)
This course will introduce various multimedia technologies that can be used in offline education. It will also examine theories and practical information on various subjects, including developing educational content and materials using multimedia technology, presenting learning materials, managing learners and contents of education.

Elementary German (2)
To build basic skills in German, this course cultivates German comprehension and expression skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Texts consisting of about 2,000 basic words are selected and students are thoroughly familiarized with grammar to understand sentence structuring.

German Pronunciation Studies & Teaching Methods (1), (2)
Examines the characteristics of individual German sounds and practices their accurate pronunciation. Consists of progressive, step- by-step, practice starting from sounds and working its way up to syllables, words, sentences, and finally to texts.

Intermediate German (1)
This course integrates listening, speaking, reading and writing to more effectively improve German skills. Texts consisting of intermediate-level words are selected and grammar is dealt with in more practical contexts.

Intermediate German (2)
To improve skills in German, this course cultivates German comprehension and expression skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Texts consisting of intermediate-level words are selected and students are thoroughly familiarized with grammar to understand sentence structuring.

Intermediate German Conversation (1)
Students cultivate German conversation skills based on what they learned in Intermediate German 1.

Intermediate German Conversation (2)
Students cultivate German conversation skills based on what they learned in Intermediate German 2.

FLEX German
Students prepare for FLEX German, which is recognized as a graduation exam.

Teaching Methods of German Listening & Speaking
With focus on the education of German language technology, students practice the theories and practices of listening and speaking, necessary for learners, so that they can effectively teach in actual education fields.

History of German Literature (1), (2)
Offered in the 1st and 2nd semesters, the course provides an overview of the history of German literature from ancient times to the Middle Ages down through to the ages of Renaissance, Baroque, enlightenment, Sturm und Drang, classicism, romanticism, realism, naturalism, expressionism, and post-war modernism.

Studies in German Curriculum
This course studies the teaching methods of German as a foreign language and various German theories on teaching methods necessary to effectively teach German and applies such to the field.

German Practice of Interpretation & Translation (1), (2)
Students practice interpretation and translation from German to Korean and vice versa using texts of various subjects.

German of Movie
German movies are used to better understand German culture and enhance German skills.

Contrastive Studies of German & English onstruction
The sentence structures of German and English are compared to increase the understanding and usage of German.

Practicum in German
As part of the education to nurture teachers, students engage in practicum as after-school teachers, assistant teachers, etc. to cultivate teacher qualifications.

German Textbook Studies & Teaching Methods
This course examines the system and content of existing teaching materials used in the teaching of German and studies ways to properly apply such to classes.

German Grammar Studies & Teaching Methods
Outlines basic German grammar and studies ways to apply it effectively in teaching.

German Studies (History & Culture)
German literature is used to understand the basic systems of the history and culture of German-speaking regions.

German Studies (Politics & Economy)
German literature is used to understand the basic systems of the politics and economy of German-speaking regions.

Special Lecture on German Literature(1),(2)
Specific subjects in the German literature area are dealt with in depth.

Logical Thinking and Writing in German
Students practice logical thinking and writing such thoughts in German. As such, students' writing capabilities are enhanced.

German Discussion on Current Issues(1),(2)
Students discuss current issues inside and outside of Germany using articles carried by the German media.

German Speech
German speeches are examined to enhance presentation skills.

German Word Formulation
Word formation in current German, its content, types and examples are taught and the relationship among word formation, sentences, and texts is considered.

Special Lecture on German Linguistics(1),(2)
Particulars of German linguistics are dealt with in depth.

German Drama
Consists of a brief introduction to German drama and the history of world drama. Deals with playwrights and their works by period from Lessing to Peter Handke. Includes student writing of short, Pro-Seminar style thesis.

German Literary Criticism
Students will research theories on the literary criticism of major writers and reviewers in German.

German Practical Letters
Students understand and learn how to write various practical German letters necessary in daily life and business.

Methods of Guidance of Reading & Writing in German
Students gain skills necessary to correctly understand German texts and write in German. Methods of guiding such activities are also explored.
