남기석 교수는 학부 및 대학원에서 응용통계학을 전공한 후 대우경제연구소에 입사하여 경제금융연구본부 계량분석실에서 근무하였다. 이후 대우증권 리서치센터에서 전력 및 전자부품 담당 애널리스트로 활동하다가 기업가치평가에 관한 심도 있는 연구를 위해 유학 길에 오른다. 유학 후에는 성균관대 경영학부에서 연구교수로 잠시 재직하다 한국외대로 자리를 옮겨 현재에 이르고 있다. 동기부여를 통해 학생의 잠재력을 최대한 발휘할 수 있도록 돕는 교육자가 됨과 더불어 의미 있는 연구를 통해 사회에 기여할 수 있는 좋은 연구자가 되고자 하는 바람을 갖고 있다.
