GSIT Master's Degree Program 2019 Admissions

Purpose of Establishment
The Graduate School of Interpretation & Translation (GSIT) of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) was established in 1979 to foster outstanding conference international interpreters and translators to meet the demand created by increased global exchange as the Korean economy developed and grew. Offering eight languages (English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic), the GSIT is the leading institution in Korea for educating professional interpreters active in the fields of politics, economy, society, culture, science, and sports, as well as translators contributing to information exchanges with other nations. The school is dedicated to developing the top international communication professionals in Korea and Asia, equipping conference interpreters and professional translators with international acumen and in-depth knowledge in a wide range of specialized fields, building on academic theory in the field of interpretation and translation, creating new educational methodologies, and fostering educators and researchers engaged in the study of literature from around the world.

- Those applying for an A-B-C combination will select a second language (B language) and a third language (C language).

- If applying for a third language (C language), you must have English as a B or C language.

- If applying for the Korean-English program, you must select either [Korean-English conference interpretation / Interpretation & translation] or [Korean-English translation] as a major (you may not apply for both).


Admissions Requirements

- Applicants must hold a degree from a college or university in Korea or abroad or be in his/her final year of undergraduate study.

• Bachelor's degree examination for self-education recognized for degree holders only.

- Applicants considered to have an academic record equivalent to the above based on relevant laws and regulations may also apply.

- The above admission and test schedule are subject to change.

- Applicants must report to the test venue at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled test start time.


Application Materials

1. Application form (complete the form, print it, and upload photo online)

2. Bachelor’s degree certificate of completion (or proof of completion)

• Graduates from colleges or universities in China must submit one of the followings:

① ‘中國高等敎育學歷査詢報告’ www.chsi.com.cn or ‘中國學位認證報告’ (www.cdgdc.edu.cn)

② a bachelor’s degree certificate and a transcript showing academic records for all years of study (Documents must be translated into Korean and authenticated in Korea. Authentication certification must be submitted with the original documents.).

3. Language proficiency test score if applicant is a foreign student

- Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) level 3 or higher; or English proficiency test score

  (TOEFL CBT 210, iBT 80, FLEX 550, TEPS 550, IELTS 5.5 or higher)

- Test scores must be dated not more than two years from the last day of application.

- Applicants admitted with a TOPIK level 3 must achieve at least level 4 before graduation.

4. A copy of passport and a certificate of alien registration (Foreign Applicants only)

5. Official document indicating parent-child relationship between the applicant and his / her parents, including official documents indicating parents' nationality (For foreign applicants whose parents are not citizens of Korea)

• All certificates must be either in Korean or English. Documents in any other languages must be translated into Korean and the translated documents must be authenticated and submitted with the original documents.

• All certificates must have been issued within the last six months.

• After applying online, print out the application form and submit it with all other application materials to the GSIT Admissions Office in person or by registered mail.

• Test admission tickets cannot be mailed (Bring your admission ticket on the day of the test).

• Application fee:100,000 won (Two language program) 150,000 won (Three language program)


Admission Scholarships

1. Scholarships are granted to students who have achieved high scores on the entrance examination.

2. Scholarships are granted to HUFS graduates who have achieved high scores in the entrance examination (scholarship decisions made every semester).


Others

1. Evaluation scores and contents will not be disclosed.

2. Application materials and application fees will not be returned.

3. If an applicant is found to have submitted false/forged/fraudulent certificates, the admission and/or enrollment will be cancelled.

4. All other matters not specified in this material will be decided by the GSIT Operations Committee.
