Graduate School

Graduate School The HUFS Graduate School opened its doors in 1961 to contribute to the development of the nation and all people by cultivating leaders with creative expertise in specialized academic fields. The HUFS Graduate School currently offers master's degrees in 47 programs and doctoral degrees in 42 programs. So far, it has awarded 1486 doctorates, 94 honorary doctorate degrees to Korean and international leading figures and 7,905 master’s degrees. We continue to cultivate and develop high-caliber leaders for every sector in Korea and abroad through proactive exchanges and cooperation with Korean and international research centers, universities and business firms as well as inter-disciplinary collaboration courses.
We motivate and reward students' achievements and desire for learning, supporting their research activities by offering scholarships for international students, high admission scores, high academic standing, special scholarships for HUFS graduates, and other scholarship programs.


1. Faculty Faculty members of each department at the Graduate School are the same as those of its undergraduate counterpart, unless otherwise listed.

1) Admission Eligibility

Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree, or should be recognized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as having the equivalent qualifications

Document Review and Oral interview

2) Requirement for the Master's Degree are as Follows

- A minimum of 24 credit hours as advised by program supervisor with the minimum grade point average of 3.00 out of the maximum of 4.50 points.

※ International Affairs, Information and Archival Science, Global Culture & Contents, Korean Translation as a Foreign Language : 33 credits


- Two years(four semesters) of residence.

- A qualifying examination in 3 selected fields.

- Proficiency test in the foreign Language

- Thesis Guidance Ⅰ(one semester)

- A thesis written under the supervision of an advisory professor in the department

- The oral defense of the thesis conducted under a committee of 3 professors.

- Two years(four semesters) of residence.

- A qualifying examination in 4 selected fields.

- Proficiency test in the foreign language

- Thesis Guidance Ⅰ,Ⅱ(two semesters)

- A dissertation written under the supervision of an advisory professor in the department

- The oral defense of the dissertation conducted under a committee of 5 professors.



4. Combined Bachelor/Master's Degree Program This program allows eligible students to earn bachelor's and master's degrees in five years by combining a bachelor's degree program and a master's degree program and reducing one semester from each of the programs (graduating in 3.5 years in the bachelor' program + 1.5 years in the master's program). It enables those who have fulfilled graduation requirements for a bachelor's program and exhibited outstanding scholastic performance and academic achievements to advance into the master's program in graduate school early by reducing the amount of time required to finish the program.
