INTRODUCTION

The Master's Program has 11 departments covering every area of the world. Students major in one of the three social fields of politics, economics, or society and culture. The curriculum focuses on theoretical and analytical skills, language mastery, and practical knowledge necessary to excel in the professional world. Candidates write a faculty-supervised Master’s thesis in either English or their regional specialty language

General Requirements for Master’s Programs

Degree Requirements

- A minimum of 40 credit hours (45 hours for U-PEACE) as advised by program supervisor with the minimum grade point average of
   3.00 out of the maximum of 4.50 points
- Two years (four semesters) of residence for coursework
- Proficiency test in the foreign language
- A thesis written under the supervision of an advisory professor in the department
- Oral defense of the thesis conducted under a committee of 3 professors

Duration of Course Work:2 years

Maximum Stay of School Years: 3 years (Any absence is not counted in)

Credits required for Completion: 40 credits minimum

Credits per Semester: Minimum of 3 credits to the maximum of 15 credits

Acknowledgement of Credits

-Credits of only no lower than B° (3.0) are acknowledged;
    but, credits for specific subjects are acknowledged if achieved over C°

Guidelines on Temporary Absence

- A student can be temporarily absent for up to 5 years in each program, and the frequency of absence is not limited.
   (*Absence for military service is not counted in)
- A student who is to be absent for military service should enclose a copy of military warrant and hand it to the administration office.

Foreign Language Proficiency Requirement

- Students have to pass the foreign language proficiency test for the successful completion of their studies.
   The test is held twice a year for students who have registered more than one semester.
   There is no limit to the number of times the test may be taken.

Exemptions for other subjects

① Master students who have obtained A°or A+ for their language course can get exemption for the major language subject
② Doctoral students who achieved FLEX 340 or above out of 600 (reading part only)can get exemption for the major language
   (regional language) or second foreign language subject
③ Doctoral students in the Korean Studies Department who achieved TOPIK Level 5 or above can get exemption for the Major Korean
    language subject. (Non-Korean Students Only)
④ Native Speaker of English or their major language(regional language) can get exemption for the subject.

   - A minimum of 64 credit hours as advised by program supervisor with the
     minimum grade point average of 3.00 out of the maximum of 4.50 points
   - 3 years(6 semesters) of residence for course work
   - One year of Thesis Guidance after course work
   - A qualifying examination(Comprehensive Exam) in 3 selected fields
   - Proficiency test in foreign languages
   - Dissertation proposal defense conducted under a committee of 3 professors
   - A dissertation written under the supervision of an advisory professor in the department
   - Oral defense of the dissertation conducted under a committee of 5 professors

   - Duration of Course Work : 3 years in case of Intergrated MA&Ph.D
   - Maximum Stay of School Years : 8 years(Any absence is not counted in)
   - Credits required for Completion : 64 credits
   - Credits per Semester : 3 credits ~ 12 credits
