Gunther Breaux has taught freshmen English conversation at HUFS for eight years. He's the author of several ELT books and he has presented at international conferences in Korea, Japan, China and the United States. His research interest is Conversation-Based Learning. Life is a contest of passion, ability, and showing up on time. His job is to give students the ability to express their passion in English.

Professor Hyeyoung Cho earned her Ph.D. in English Education from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies after completing an M.A. in Conference Interpreting at Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia). She has taught English and TESOL for five years at college level. Her research interests include corpus linguistics, cognitive linguistics, and TESOL. As a teacher, she values meaningful and purposful interaction among students in the learning process. Learning English can be a challenge, but it does not have to be boring or overwhelmingly difficult. Through the class, students will have a lot of fun exploring authentic language materials and engaging in various classroom activities.

Stephanie Ptak is from the Chicago area, USA. She studied Spanish and Linguistics during university, which led her to study and then to teach in Spain for a few years in Barcelona and Mallorca. Stephanie came to Korea in 2011 and has taught in Gyeongsang-do and Seoul. She is most interested in teaching writing and researched this topic extensively during graduate school. She is also interested in bringing mindfulness into the classroom.

Hello. My name is Scott Haven. I approach teaching from a creative standpoint. Good grades are very important, but I want students to see themselves as the remarkable human beings they are. I want them to know their self-worth and realize their potential is limitless. My philosophy rests on the idea that I must set high standards for students and for myself to help foster the intellectual development for students. I set the individual needs of students at the pinnacle of my lesson design and presentation of instruction. My goal has always been to provide meaningful, sustainable learning. Each semester causes me to reflect upon, and modify my teaching strategies to incorporate updated instructional practices to help my students obtain a great level of understanding and retention. There is no better way to benefit society than to teach, and I cannot wait for the opportunity to ensure success in the next generation of young students.

Professor Hull earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology in Education with a specialization in TESOL from Temple University, Philadelphia. He has taught in the Communicative English Department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies since 2010, where he specializes in Content-based Learning. Students in his classes improve their English proficiency through subjects like history, science, current affairs, and the media rather than in a traditional grammar-based curriculum. He believes that studying doesn’t have to be boring to be academic and his classes are rigorous, yet relaxed and fun.

Hi, I’m Chris Kobylinski, but you can call me Koby. I’m from the USA. I was born in Ohio, but spent lots of time in Massachusetts, Florida, and Seoul. I’ve lived in Korea for a long time and really enjoy it. I enjoy teaching students and especially focus on building up their confidence and improving their communication skills.

I lived most of my life in Canada before moving to Seoul, Korea. I have a BA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Victoria, and an MA in English Education from Ewha Womans University. I began my teaching career at a private elementary school in Canada. After I moved to Korea, I continued to teach English at different schools until I joined the Committee on Practical English at HUFS in 2010. With more than 10 years’ experience, I am adept in classroom instruction, planning and testing. In addition to my experience and personal qualities, I have a solid educational foundation and a passion for teaching English. My goal is to provide my students with the necessary tools and confidence to communicate in English in academic and casual settings.

Michael Madill has been teaching English for over ten years in Canada, the United States, and South Korea. He has published several research articles related to reducing speaking anxiety among language learners and presented at international conferences around the world. His goals in the language classroom are to create an environment where all students feel comfortable speaking English and to provide as much practice as possible using the language. Learning English does not have to be boring, and his classes are interactive where his students do most of the talking.

I earned my Ph.D. in Linguistics at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. My research interests lie in the study of language acquisition (first, second, bilingual) and psycholinguistics, particularly in the areas of syntax and semantics. I very much enjoy the opportunity to interact with students, and it has been a valuable experience working with students from various backgrounds.

I earned my Ph.D. in Second Language Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi. at Mānoa. I specialize in second language learning, task-based language teaching, and motivation. I have taught English in Korea and USA, and enjoyed working with students from diverse backgrounds. As a teacher, I strive to create a classroom environment where students possess a sense of ownership of their own learning and the teacher and students collaboratively work toward achieving mutually established goals in the journey of learning.
