Counseling Psychology at HUFS is a scientist-practitioner program, viewing research and practice as interdependent and complementary.

In addition to the theoretical learning, we have the strength to apply the counseling theory practically in order to nurture a counseling psychologist to be competent in clinical settings. There are separate courses for Interpersonal theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, object relations theory, and psychodynamic courses. This provides a high-quality educational experience that allows students to apply counseling theories in practice.

The program’s commitment to diversity aims to advance social equality, empower individuals to explore and appreciate their unique attributes and life experiences, challenge stereotypes, and prepare individuals to practice psychology in a diverse society. Our training program recognizes the inherent value and dignity of each person and actively promotes an awareness of, sensitivity to, and representation of diversity, including, but not limited to, differences of age, sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, national and regional origin, sexual orientation, religion and spirituality, disabilities, and socioeconomic status. It is expected that students will engage in this self-exploration process as a critical aspect of their own professional development as multiculturally competent counseling psychologists.

한국외국어대학교의 상담심리학 석사과정은 상담심리 연구와 실습을 상호 보완적인 관계로 간주하고 학생들을 교육하는 '과학자-실무자 모델'에 기반한 상담전문가 양성 프로그램입니다. 본 과정에서는 이론적 학습뿐 아니라 임상 현장에서의 경쟁력을 갖춘 상담심리학자를 육성하기 위해 대인관계 이론, 인지행동치료, 대상관계이론, 정신분석 이론 등의 수업을 통해 학생들이 상담 이론을 실제 상담장면에 적용할 수 있는 수준 높은 교육 경험을 제공합니다.

또한, 개인의 고유한 가치와 존엄성을 인식하고 연령, 성별, 성적 정체성, 인종, 국가, 종교의 다양성을 존중하는 교육 프로그램을 제공하여 재학생들이 훗날 사회적 평등을 증진시키고, 사회의 고정관념들을 변화시키며 다양한 측면에서 심리학이 실천되는 데에 핵심적인 역할을 할 수 있도록 성장시키는 것을 목적으로 하고 있습니다.  이를 통해 학생들이 문화의 차이 또한 아우를 수 있는 유능한 상담심리사로서 자신의 전문적인 역량을 발견하고 탐구하는 과정에 임할 수 있기를 기대합니다.
