The Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations will be hosting a Workshop on <Languages, Legends, and Relics in Early Buddhism> with the Lee&Won Foundation.
Professor Oskar von Hinüber (Professor Emeritus, Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg) and Professor John Strong (Bates College), renowned specialists on early Indian Buddhism, will be presenting their recent work and publications, and we cordially invite colleagues and students interested in the event.
Workshop: September 8, Friday, 2018 14:00-17:00 Room 302 Shinyang Humanities Hall, Seoul National University
Presentation 1: Oskar von Hinüber, "The Veda, Indian Grammarians, and the Language of Early Buddhism"
Presentation 2: John Strong, "The Afterlives of Buddhist Relics: the Case of Piprahwa Finds"
A Special Lecture with simultaneous translation will also be provided the following day by the Lee&Won Foundation.

Lecture 1: John Strong, "The Legends of King Aśoka and the Many Faces of Buddhist Kingship"
Lecture 2: Oskar von Hinüber, "Buddhist Culture and Politics in the Sātavāhana Kingdom Mirrored in the Inscriptions Found at Kanaganahalli (South India)"
