Universidade Federal Fluminense, 2018-1

Baek Eunae

           I studied in the Universidade Federal Fluminense as an exchange student in the first semester of 2018. Universidade Federal Fluminense, as known as UFF, is located in a municipality called Niterói, which is 15 mins away by a boat from the City of Rio de Janeiro. The name Fluminense means all the provinces of State of Rio de Janerio, except the City of Rio de Janerio. Campuses of the UFF are located over Niterói and other municipalities of Rio de Janeiro as well. It is among the top 25 universities in Latin America.

           The Gragoata Campus that I studied is located right next to the sea. It has marvelous views all day long. Many students have a picnic or just lay down on the lawns in the university.

           All students, professors and staffs welcome international students and are willing to help any problem while spending time there. There are basic and intermediate levels of Portuguese course for foreign students to learn Portuguese language. In the first semester of 2018, there were more than 50 international students from all over the world.  

            I took courses in the Department of Law, the Department of History and the Department of Economics. All courses offered informative knowledge and wide and deep understanding of the Latin America region. UFF offers many courses in English and Spanish. In the last semester, there were 6 graduate courses in English. But there will be more in the future.

           Exchange program in UFF for me was a new and exciting experience. I met many interesting people and learned new things that I would not have a chance to encounter if I did not decide to go. I could learn a new perspective on Latin America as well as Portuguese language. I highly recommend exchange program to anyone who wants to know the bigger world.
