Reflection on HUFS TESOL Program

YL-TESOL

한혜정 선생님

I am honored and humbled to address you on behalf of my fellow graduates today. My name is Hye-Jung Han, and I am graduating from spring 2019 YL HUFS TESOL.

It is such a pleasure to share in the intensity of emotions filling this auditorium as you who are graduating close this chapter of your life's story.

Let me start with the famous quotation from the great Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, "If you hear a voice within you say 'You cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced." I remember the first time I decided to enroll this program, everyone asked me if I was sure about it. Even though I have 2 years of teaching experience, it was a hard decision of mine since I wondered myself if I can get through with it.

However, I decided to believe in my solid belief and the period of four months in HUFS TESOL program proved it.

The main reason I chose HUFS TESOL was because it is the best-known in Korea for its TESOL program. As I took this course, I was convinced that HUFS TESOL has not only trustable contents but also it has wonderful professors.

Through YL TESOL program, I was given great opportunities to build practical and theoretical knowledge of teaching English as a second language. Particularly, I was able to learn the technical skills and competencies necessary to deliver appropriate instruction to young learners. Teaching non-native students (specially, young learners) can be challenging, however, the urge to apply what I’ve learned into real teaching situation is getting stronger than before.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to my achievement. Especially, I would take out some moment to extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation to my professors for being my guide always and showing me the right direction and path to walk on.

They willingly have spent extra hours and shown special care to all of us in order to prepare us for the ‘real world’. Every time I'd wanted to give up, they encouraged me a lot in their own special way and shared examples of theirs.

Most importantly, I am deeply appreciated that they saved my life just right before I was buried in homework.

Like many of you, literally, I sometimes wanted to vanish into the air due to a lot of pressure to do a better job. However, they kept telling me that I am doing awesome and it is ok not to be perfect if I am ready to learn and have a strong desire to be an English teacher. It made myself feel confident and successful even though I was not perfect.

I also would like to thank my lovely classmates for making my past four months at HUFS amazing.

You made each day worthwhile and were truly supportive. It was a great pleasure to have you in class. I have no doubt that I couldn't have done it without your help. I really appreciate it.

Special thanks to the staffs of HUFS TESOL for being helpful, and supportive at all times. The kindness and thoughtfulness you showed to all of us are much appreciated.

Finally, to all of you graduates sitting in front of me, with whom I've shared many fond memories. I hope as we end this chapter of our lives, we are also ready to start a new life. I am so proud of you. I wish you all the best, and good luck. We’ve made it. Congratulations, class of spring 2019!
