2016-1 입학식 Speech

Good evening, everyone.

I was both honored and humbled to learn a few days ago that I had been selected to deliver this speech to you today. Even though it wasn't an easy proposal to accept, I thought it was worthwhile to share my experience with the people who have the same goal just like me, which is to become a better English teacher in the future.

For the last 6 months, the TESOL program has been a great journey for all of us. Starting a new life as a student was exciting but a bit anxious. However, after a few weeks into the course, all my worries disappeared and my decision with HUFS was absolutely right. During the whole semester, I have learned so many things even though I have several years of teaching experience. Each and everyone of us could walk away with various activities and teaching methods for our own teaching tool box. Plus, the teachers are professionals with years of practical expertise and most importantly, they will bring out the best in you.

I do admit there was time when I felt overwhelmed and stressed out since many assignments were given each week and at the same time I had to work during the days. Also, I am a mother of a 20 month-old baby. However, climbing over each challenge, I found myself reaching my full potential and developing as a teacher.

This University and its faculty have no more important goal than helping you in this quest but there are some tips that you could take.

First, fully engage yourself in the classes. In other words, try to maximize your learning opportunities. Don't be afraid of making mistakes and asking questions. We are all here to learn and the professors are here to support you.

Second, build and maintain great rapport with your classmates. Positive relationships with each other can contribute to making the class environment an enjoyable place to be. Your study can become more rewarding and less stressful as well as your positive energy would make your professors have a wonderful time teaching you.

Last but not least, do not lose your spark that brought you here. Since you already have a good start, you are half way done.

Now, it is your turn to gain valuable lessons and some amazing memories that will stay

with you forever. Good luck and I wish you all the best.

Thank you.
