[Internship] Miral Welfare Foundation Africa Regional Office
Middle East and African Studies 201248012 KWON HAERAN
![]() I've got a wide variety of experience in Kenya, Africa. I have spent my 3rd and 4th semester in Nairobi. I studied my 3rd semester at the university of nairobi as 3+1 programme in January to September 2013. From September 2013, I have been working for the Korean NGO which is called Miral Welfare Foundation Kenya Africa Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya as an intern. Miral Welfare Foundation is supporting people who are isolated from global village. They help self-reliance of local resident, education and protection for children in poverty, establish and support school for disabled people etc. Miral Kenya which is one of branches of the organization just start to work in Nairobi.
My expectation for the internship was to have a working experience in the field and face external challenges. I have assisted all activities to settlement of organization such as getting a registration certificate from Kenya government. One of the most memorable experiences of an internship is that I've conducted the questionnaire with deaf school students. I carried out very simple survey for collecting basic data to make a training programme. I explained the questionnaires to deaf students and teachers translated it with sign language. It was not easy and requires a great deal of care but really good time to communicate with them. It provided a great opportunity for me to see how the NGO work in the field. I could more understand the process of setting NGO and general management of organization by implementing of project and administrative task of office,
Working for the MWFK in Nairobi provided me with an opportunity to experience new culture, people, and give insights to my future career in international development. I strongly believe that this experience can be a stepping-stone into my career and allow me to network with other NGOs as well as prepare me with strong foundational background.
