<국문초록>

 

이 논문은 중고등학교 정규교육과정 교과서, 그 중에서도 특히 현행 교과서에서 라틴아메리카 관련 서술이 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지 알아보기 위함이다.

첫 번째로는 “교과서에서 라틴아메리카에 대해 어떻게 기술하고 있는지.”이다. 2000년대 이전에는 8개 중 7개의 교과서가 “신대륙”이라는 표현을 사용했다. “신대륙”이라는 표현은 유럽 침략자의 관점에서 본 용어이기 때문에, 엄밀히 말해서 아메리카 대륙은 “신대륙”이라고 부르면 안 된다. 다행히도 오늘날의 교과서는 조금 더 중립적인 관점으로 “신대륙”대신 ‘신항로’ 또는 ‘신세계’를 이전(2000년대 전)보다 더 많이 사용하고 있는 점 은 고무적이라고 할 수 있다. 하지만 아직 “신대륙”이라는 용어의 사용이 전혀 없는 것은 아니며, ‘신항로’, ‘신세계’또한 “신대륙”과 비슷한 색체를 띄고 있는 표현이고, 이 점은 개선되어야한다고 생각한다.

두 번째로, 교과서에 크리스토퍼 콜롬버스의 이름이 어떻게 쓰이고 있는지 조사하였다. 기본적으로 끄리스또발 꼴론 또는 크리스토포로 콜롬보로 불려야 한다. 전자는 그가 활동했던 스페인식 이름이고 후자는 그가 태어난 이탈리아식 이름이다. 그러나 모든 책이 영어식 이름인 크리스토퍼 콜롬버스로 표기되어있고, 이탈리아식 이름이 병기된 경우는 3건, 스페인식 이름은 전무한 상황이다. 그나마도 과거의 교과서만 이탈리아식 이름이 병기되어 있을 뿐, 현행교과서는 영어식 이름만을 표기하고 있다. 게다가 영어식 이름표기도 상이해서, 콜롬버스와 콜럼버스가 뒤섞여 사용되고 있다. 이런 꼴론에 대한 서술은 그에 대한 인식의 편견을 만들 수 도 있기 때문에 그의 이름을 정확히 표기하도록 노력해야 한다고 본다.

마지막으로, 우리는 라틴아메리카의 고대문명에 대한 서술을 살펴보았다. 가장 큰 문제는 교과서에 콜롬버스 이전의 문명에 대한 설명이 매우 적다는 것이다. 또 라틴아메리카에서 번성했던 다양한 여러 문명들 중에서도 잉카와 마야에 치우쳐 설명되어 있다는 점 도 문제점이다.

This thesis is written in order to present the trend of the descriptions related to Latin America in textbooks of secondary and higher education approved by the Korean government, especially in textbooks in force.

Our first concern is about "How to describe Latin America books in their texts?". Prior to 2000, seven of eight books used the phrase "New World (신대륙)". Strictly speaking, the continent should not be called as such because it is a term from the standpoint of the European invaders. We should change it to another name. Today, that name has been changed to a slightly more neutral point of view. Currently, there is talk of the 'Maritime New Line (신항로)' instead of 'New World' in most textbooks. However, there has not been stopped using 'New World' and indeed the 'New Maritime Line' and the 'New World' have a similar hue. In our opinion, this expression must be submitted under the table for discussion replaced.

Secondly, we have also investigated the name of Christopher Columbus used in textbooks. Basically we have to call him 끄리스또발 꼴론 or 크리스토 포로 콜롬보 . The first is the name in Spanish and the second is in Italian. But all books listed as 크리스토퍼 콜럼버스 or 꼴론. This is the name in English, so it is not very appropriate, but there are three books that the name mentioned in conjunction with 콜롬보 and 콜롬버스. All books confusedly point '콜럼버스'. According to his place of birth or life, you should change the English name in Spanish or Italian. On the other hand, we can also say another problem is different because his English name written in Korean in the texts. Some are written as 콜롬버스 and others are registered as 콜럼버스. So the lack of consistency in spelling would be another problem arises.

Finally, we asked about the descriptions of the ancient civilizations of Latin America. The main problem is that generated very little amount of information about the pre-Columbian civilization in textbooks. On the other hand, among the different civilizations that had flowered in Latin America, the Incas and Mayans asymmetrically occupy most of the information.
