3+1
program at the SASS Dept.: Chinese Studies Name: Min-AE Kim Period: 2009.03.01~06.30 Institution: Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences First of all, I really appreciate the opportunity to have studied in China for a semester through the 3+1 Student Dispatch Program, during which I learned a lot of precious, valuable things. Especially, as I had never studied abroad, through this experience I could broaden my view toward the world. The Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) was founded in 1958, which is the top-notch state-run research institution. It concluded partnership agreement with HUFS GSAIS quite a while ago, so some of my seniors have already studied there. Before studying at the SASS, I had to fill out some application forms, such as a letter of acceptance and a research plan. And then, I sent it to the SASS’s International Cooperation Sector. Before long, I got the permission to study at the SASS. The SASS has flexible curricula. After consulting with the professor in charge, he arranged me to take the courses, the most relevant to my major. And every course was conducted one on one with a professor. The most favorable thing while studying at the SASS was having intimate interaction with renowned scholars on the Chinese economy. Along with the classes, they offered me various academic activities related to the courses. Moreover, making friends with FUDAN University (the first-rate university in Shanghai) students was the most exciting part. Shanghai, an international city, did not trouble me living there. Since the SASS is located in downtown, and public transportations were around. But leaving as desired was not easy because they didn’t offer an exchange student dorm and a student visa. I had to do these on my own. Thankfully, though, people from the institute advised me how to get things done.
Before leaving Seoul, I was quite worried about the life in Shanghai, because I had never been abroad. Looking back, however, I am really grateful that things went successfully at the SASS. Through the experience, I could understand more thoroughly about my major. It was like a stepping stone for me to become more knowledgeable on the Chinese economy. Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to my HUFS GSIAS for offering this splendid program. I highly recommend this 3+1 student dispatch program to my all of fellow students. |
