3+1 exchange program at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences

I had an opportunity to study in Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) last semester through “3+1 dispatch programs”.
It was not my first visiting to china since I got my bachelor degree in china.
After entering GSIAS HUFS, I always wanted to have a chance to work my master thesis in china again.
I could have it by helping of professor and university.
They made an effort for this dispatch program such as contact with someone in charge in academy regularly and recommended me for SASS.

 

 

The Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences was founded in 1985 and it is administrated the Municipal Government of Shanghai.
It is China’s oldest research institution for the humanities.
Also it is a non-profit organization and oriented in Shanghai issues, it independent from the Chinese Academy of social Sciences (CASS).
In addition, there is a long history and close relationship between SASS and HUFS GSIAS for academic exchange and student exchange.
There are many exchange students studying in SASS from GSIAS HUFS. Many of them are PhD students.
All classes were conducted under one-to-one base.
I got many good advices on my thesis writing.
It was very helpful for my thesis.
Except the normal courses, there were also chances to participate academic conferences and seminars, which were conducted by very famous professors and scholars.
You can make broad human connection through these events.
Through the 3+1 program for a semester in shanghai, I got a variety of knowledge about China.

 

 

However, if you want to study in SASS, I would recommend you to make something clear about your thesis.
Since this institution is conduct research, you should have comprehensive Knowledge about your thesis.
If not, you would not get what you wanted to do. In that case, it would be better to choose normal university.
Also, there are plenty of references which you cannot find in Korea. It would be helpful for your research.

 

Most importantly, I acquired not only the academic experiences but also the Chinese daily life experience.
It gave me a comprehensive understanding about Chinese people and their culture.
It was so helpful for me to understand my major and I believe that it will do a positive role for my future life.
