[Internship] Hyundai Corporation Moscow office (글로벌무역인턴십 9기)
I spent my first
semester in Russia, working as an intern at Hyundai Corporation Moscow office. I
was given two projects newly started. One of them, which I spent most of the
time on, was to sale marine equipment.
After
understanding Russian shipbuilding business structure, I started sending
circular letter, continued trying to contact companies and arranged three
meetings. I tried to develop the business by providing material and offering
some items, but unfortunately we could not step into real cooperation during my
working period.
There are two
unforgettable experiences for me. One is when I was on business trip. I and my
boss visited a shipyard. We not only discussed our future cooperation, but also
looked around the shipyard, inside of vessels being constructed. Moreover, I
felt more familiar when I met the buyer and found out why long-distance
business trips are still necessary despite the possibility of e-trade.
The other is relationship through phone calls. Using terms related to ship, I
was speaking hesitantly at first, but finally realized, the things that affect
buyer's attitude are self-confidence and ability to express their opinions. For
instance, I received a better reply when I spoke a bit stronger. Due to a
problem with shipper, the shipbuilding plan has been delayed. We have provided
the company with our information in response to their requirement, but didn't
receive any feedback. I asked for their feedback several times regarding our
material, which they can provide regardless of the status of contracts.
However, the company has just repeated the same answer that they cannot give us
any feedback. I was a little bit upset and dared to call directly general
director of the shipyard. When I was talking with him, I just told what I want,
not worrying about grammar. Then my argument was finally being delivered to the
company and I received a reply that they will review the contents right away,
so that we can have additional meeting.
I think it is not
enough to fully understand Russia during six months, but I was really happy to
have this opportunity to take part in such a huge market. I will keep trying to
understand it.
