Report of exchange program in Centro Investigation y Docencia Economía (CIDE)
Liu Yi Ph.D. Student from Latin America Economics
February 26, 2012
Thanks to the stuffs in administration office and Dean of GSIAS, they provided me the information and approved me this chance to be exchanged to CIDE, which the most distinguished institute in Mexico for economics research. I stayed in CIDE as an exchange student and a visiting scholar from the beginning of August to the mid of December in 2011.
Everything in Mexico was adventure and upgrading for me, I admired the beautiful view of the Central America, but the most importantly, I had the chance to learn and to accompany with the most famous diplomats and the economist in the field of Asia and Latin America relations. Before I went to Mexico, I applied for supervising professor for my research in Mexico as CIDE requested. The professor Anguiano Eugenio and the Ph.D. committee approved my research project, which is the triangle trade relation of Mexico, U.S. and China. In addition to my research I applied for a Spanish course (B1).
At the very beginning the research in Mexico was not easy for me because of lacking resources and data, thanks to the guidance and full support of my supervising professor Anguiano Eugenio, professor of Mexico and China Research Centre, who provided me the books and resources and guided me with his experience both as an academic diplomat and economist, even though it was a “mission impossible” at the time when I started. With the help of my supervising professor and friends in CIDE, I was upgraded Balassa RCA model and invented my own model; I named it as Liu Yi Import and Export Dynamism. It was highly appraised by my supervisor. Finally, I successfully complete the research and awarded certificate of completing research by CIDE.
My Spanish level improved greatly, thanks to the help of Professor Heriberto Diaz, the manager of Foreign Language Department of CIDE. I was able to express myself much freely after my finishing study than I just arrived; moreover, I have arrived at the fast track of learning Spanish. At the end of the semester, my grade was recorded 90% which was the top score in that class.
This experience in CIDE was incredible and fantastic. It is very helpful for me to be a professor or researcher in China. Thanks to GSIAS.
