Korean Government ddScholarship Program

 

 

niiedSince 1967, the government of the Republic of Korea has been inviting outstanding students from all over the world annually. The government provides tuition for 1 year language learning program and either Undergraduate(4 years) or Graduate(4-6 semesters) degree and monthly allowance for the scholarship awardee. Especially it organizes KGSP alumni of each country to establish a bridgehead for cooperation of exchange in academics, politics, economics and in culture.

As of September 2011, There are 90 KGSP scholars studying at our university in various programs including Korean langauge course. 

 

 Purpose
 
To provide international students with the opportunity to conduct advanced studies of undergraduate & graduate programs at higher educational institutions in the Republic of Korea in order to promote international exchange in education mutual friendship between countries.

 

 Available Fields
 
- Undergraduate course: 4-year courses at designated universities.
   University transferring is not allowed. (e.g. Starting studies at the junior year is not allowed.)

- Graduate course: Master's Ph.D. courses at general graduate schools of Korean universities
※ Majors @HUFS open to KGSP students.
   All undergraduate majors other than "college of education".

 

 Qualifications
 
- Both the applicant his/her parents must possess the citizenship of the country of origin.
- Applicants should not be a holder of Korean citizenship.
- Applicants should have adequate health, both mentally physically, to stay in a foreign country for a long time.
- Applicants who have never enrolled in the same KGSP course.
- Should be under 25 years of age as of the date of entrance. (Undergraduate)
- Should be under 40 years of age as of the date of entrance. (Graduate)
- Have finished/be scheduled to finish formal education of elementary, middle, and high school courses as of the date of arrival.
  (Undergraduate)
- Hold a Bachelor degree,a Master's degree as of the date of arrival. (Graduate)
- Person who have already registered at a Korean university can not apply.
- Possess a grade point average (G.P.A.) above 80% from the last educational institution attended
   have earned top 10% of G.P.A. among classmates. (Undergraduate)
- Possess a grade point average (G.P.A.) above 80% from the last educational institution attended. (Graduate)

 

 Application procedures
 
- Undergraduate
   Announcement: Before Oct. of the previous year
   Recommendation(Embassy): Dec. of the previous year
   Result release: Jan. of the year
   Arrival in Korea: March of the year
  ※ Participating universities cannot accept applications from international students for 2012 program.  
     Students are required to contact the Korean embassy in their country of residence to get detailed informaton about the application  procedures. 
 
- Graduate
   Announcement: Jan.- Feb. of the year
   Recommendation(Embassy, University): Apr. - May of the year
   Result release: June of the year
   Arrival in Korea: Late August of the year
 
 Procedure for the Scholarship Award
  - NIIED requests the Korean Embassy in the invited country/the domestic university concerned to recommend
    candidates.
  - Applicants should submit all documents related to their scholarship application to the Korean Embassy in their
    country of residence /to the domestic university concerned.
  - The Korean Embassy/the domestic university concerned sends proper candidates to NIIED with required
    documents.
  - NIIED evaluates proper candidates and notifies the Korean Embassy of the final KGSP grantees.

 

 Scholarship Benefit
 
- Airfare (Roundtrip)
- Tuition fees for all courses
- A Monthly allowance of KRW 800,000 for undergraduate, KRW 900,000 for graduate
- Research allowance of KRW 210,000 for graduate (per semester)
- Settlement allowance of KRW 200,000 (one-off payment, only at arrival)
- Monthly TOPIK allowance of KRW 100,000 for TOPIK 5, 6 holders 
- Medical insurance
Special Merit Scholarship for KGSP scholars at HUFS: KRW 200,000
