Visa & Immigration Congratulation on your admission to Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

The Global One-Stop Service Center(GOSC) is pleased to welcome all international students to HUFS, Seoul. On this page that follows, we are providing you with useful visa information and immigration guide. Prospective Students

A. Student Visa Acquisition

All international students residing in foreign countries and have been accepted to study at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies will need to apply for a student visa at the closest embassy or consulate of the Republic of Korea.

Since it may take anywhere from a few weeks up to several months to obtain a valid student visa, it is very important to inquire with the closest embassy or consulate of the Republic of Korea for information regarding visa application requirements and processing times as early as possible.

Please note that Chinese students need to obtain either 1) a certificate of recognition of visa issuance or 2) certification number of visa issuance from HUFS before visiting the embassy or consulate of the Republic of Korea to appy for a visa with the required documents.

※ Required Documents for Obtaining an Overseas Study Visa (D-2)
   (Documents may be added or exempted as needed)
  - Photocopy of passport
  - Application for Visa Issuance or Application for Recognition of Visa Issuance
  - 2 color photos (3.5cm x 4.5cm)
  - Certificate of admission & invitation letter from HUFS
  - Certificate of most recent scholastic achievement
  - Certificate of bank balance
  - Census Registry (Applicable to Chinese--All family members must be listed)
  - A Copy of MOU on Exchange Program (Applicable to Chinese)
  - A Letter of Recommendation from their home university (Applicable to Chinese)

B. Changing Status of Stay

If you are a D-4 status(General training - Korean language course) foreigner and have been admitted to our degree seeking courses (undergraduate, post undergraduate courses), you should apply for chaning status of stay to D-2 (Overseas Study) before our reqular courses start.

1) Application Period : Before engaging in activities beyond the current visa status
                                
2) Documents submitted to CIS
   - Application for changing status of stay   
   - Passport
   - Alien registration card
   - Fee : KRW 50,000
   - Certificate of admission (표준입학허가서) 
   - Receipt for tuition payment or certificate of scholarship (등록금납입증명 또는 장학증명)
   - Certificate of bank balance (예금잔고증명)
   - Certificate of final academic background, Census Registry (Only applicable to Chinese) (최종학력증명, 호구부)
   - Certificate of all language training courses during D44 studentship including rate of attendance & course period
     (D44 -> D2) (D-4자격 체류기간 중 모든 한국어 과정 수료증 - 출석률 및 기간 명시)


Current Students

A. Alien Registration

Students who plan to stay longer than 90 days need to apply for Residence Permission at the Seoul Immigration Office within 90 days of their arrival in Korea.

1) Application Period : Within 90 days from the arrival date
                                 For foreigners who granted status or change of status at the time when such permissions
                                 were given

2) Documents submitted to CIS
   - Application for foreigner registration 
   - Passport
   - 1 color photo (3x4cm)
   - Fee : KRW 10,000
   - Certificate of current enrollement (재학증명)


B. Extension of Stay

1) Application Period : Before 2 months from the current expiration date to expiration date.
                                 (In the case of apply for the extension after the expiration date, you shall pay the penalty

2) Documents submitted to CIS
   - Application for extension of stay 
   - Passport
   - Alien registration card
   - Fee : KRW 30,000
   - Certificate of current enrollment (재학증명)
   - Official Transcript (성적증명)
   - Receipt of tuition payment (등록금납입증명)
   - Certificate of bank balance (예금잔고증명)
   - In the event that regular academic is exceeded, the material that proves such fact(recommendation by Advisor)
