한국외국어대학교 통번역대학은 2008년 3월 출범한 대한민국 최초의 학부과정 통역·번역학 단과대학으로 세계 각 지역의 언어와 문화적 다양성을 이해하고 소통할 수 있는 진정한 글로벌 인재 양성을 목표로 하고 있습니다. 용인에 소재한 통·번역대학은 1개학부(영어통번역학부)와 8개 학과(독일어, 스페인어, 이탈리아어, 중국어, 아랍어, 일본어, 태국어, 말레이-인도네시아어)로 구성되어 있습니다. 

강도 높은 언어교육

한국외국어대학교 통·번역대학은 능숙한 현지 언어 구사능력 배양, 해당 지역에 대한 인문·사회과학적 지식 습득, 소통과 상생의 인식 함양이라는 3대 교육목적을 지향하고 있습니다. 이 중에서도 ‘통번역’ 이라는 명칭에서 드러나듯 완벽한 현지 언어 구사력이 필수입니다. 이를 위해 우리 통·번역대학은 한국외국어대학의 타 어문계열 학과에 비해 16학점이 많은 최소 83학점을 이수할 것을 요구하고 있으며, 졸업인증도 타 단과대학의 134학점보다 많은 150학점을 전제하고 있습니다.

통·번역 중심의 커리큘럼

전공 과정에 유례없이 많은 시간을 투자함에 따라 학생들에게 양질의 다양한 커리큘럼을 제공할 수 있게 되었습니다. 무엇보다 1, 2학년 과정에서는 강도 높은 언어교육이 3, 4학년 과정에서는 해당 지역에 대한 심도 있는 인문·사회과학적 교육이 강조되고 있습니다.

통·번역대학의 신입생은 ‘통·번역 입문’이라는 교양과목을 필수적으로 수강합니다. 통역과 번역의 일반적인 이론과 방법론을 다룬 과목으로, 3, 4학년 과정에 개설된 해당 언어별 통번역 수업을 위한 기초이해 과목으로서 그 역할을 수행합니다. 고학년 과정의 전공 개설 과목으로는 ‘한국어-외국어’의 순차통역과정을 포함한 문화번역, 영상번역 등의 통번역 심화과정이 마련되어 있습니다. 해당 지역의 경제, 정치, 문학사, 문화사 등 총론 과목들 또한 제공되고 있습니다.

엄격한 학사관리

커리큘럼과 함께 통·번역대학이 주력하는 부분은 타 어문계열 단과대학에 비해 강화 된 학사관리와 졸업시험제도입니다.

예컨대 스페인통번역학과 학생들은 FLEX 듣기·읽기만 응시해도 되는 타 학과에 비해 듣기·읽기는 물론, 쓰기·말하기 영역과 함께 해당 지역 인문·사회과학 전공 선택 중 3과목을 동시에 응시한 뒤 평균 60점이 넘어야 졸업사정을 통과할 수 있습니다. FLEX 듣기·읽기 영역만 평가하는 일본어통번역학과의 경우도 통과기준이 800점입니다.

이는 FLEX 듣기·읽기 영역의 만점이 1000점임을 고려해볼 때 매우 높은 수준입니다. 중국어통번역학과는 FLEX 듣기·읽기에서 2B 이상의 등급을 취득해야 하며, 중국어작문, 중국어회화를 필수로 중국고문, 중국사정, 중국문학사 중 1과목을 선택과목으로 해 응시해야 합니다.

어학교육을 위한 전용 실습실 운영

통·번역대학의 전용 실습실 ‘Global Corridor'에는 어학교육을 위한 장비가 구비되어 있습니다. 전 좌석 개인 컴퓨터가 장착되어 소그룹별 수업은 물론 교수와 학생의 일대일 커뮤니케이션이 가능해 전공강의를 위한 수업장소로도 활용되고 있습니다.

The curriculum is designed to cultivate globalized professionals in interpretation and translation, who have extensive knowledge in regional studies and human and social sciences, including politics, economy, society and culture, as well as excellent language fluency to facilitate international communication and contribute to national development.
