The HUFS Graduate School’s detailed enforcement regulations and rules on degree conferral are modified. The title of the department is renamed for the following a master’s program: the Department of English to the Department of English Language and Literature, the Department of French to the Department of French Language and Literature, the Department of Chinese to the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Department of German to the Department of German Language and Literature, the Department of Russian to the Department of Russian Language and Literature, the Department of Spanish to the Department of Hispanic Language and Literature, the Department of Japanese to the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, the Department of Arabic and African Languages to the Department of Arabic and African Languages and Literature, the Department of Italian to the Department of Italian Language and Literature, the Department of Portuguese to the Department of Portuguese Language and Literature, the Department of North European Languages to the Department of North European Languages and Literature, the Department of South and Southeast Asian Language to the Department of South and Southeast Asian Languages and Literature, the Department of Archives to the Department of Archives and Information, and the Department of Electronic and Control Engineering to the Department of Electronics and Information Engineering.

In master’s and doctoral programs, the Department of Linguistics is renamed as the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science. The Department of North European Languages and Literature in master’s program is renamed as the Department of Scandinavian Languages and Literature.
In a master’s program, the Department of Culture and Contents is established.

The HUFS Graduate School’s school regulations, detailed enforcement regulations, and rules on degree conferral are modified.
A concentration in Industrial Engineering in the Department of Industrial Engineering is renamed as Industrial and Information Systems Engineering.
For students entering the school from the spring semester of 2000, the degree of M.A/Ph.D. in Political Science, Economics, and Literature acquired from the Department of International Affairs is changed as M.A. in International Affairs.
Master’s students, who have registered for at least three (3) semesters (a minimum of 15 credit hours), are eligible to take Comprehensive Exam, rather than both passing the foreign language exam and having registered for at least three (3) semesters (a minimum of 24 credit hours).
Doctoral students, who have registered for at least three (3) semesters (a minimum of 18 credit hours), are eligible to take Comprehensive Exam, rather than both passing the foreign language exam and having registered for at least four (4) semesters (a minimum of 36 credit hours).
For all students entering the school from 2000, master’s research students need to have completed the course work more than 1 semester ago (6 months) and pay 20% of the semester’s tuition and doctoral research students need to have completed the course work 2 semesters ago (1 year) and pay 30% of the semester’s tuition.

The HUFS Graduate School’s school regulations, detailed enforcement regulations, and rules on degree conferral are modified.
In a master’s program, the Department of Middle East Languages and Literature established.
In a doctoral program, the Department of Korean Studies, the Department of Chinese Studies, and the Department of East European Languages and Literature are established.
A concentration in Linguistics is established in the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Sciences in both master’s and doctoral programs.
In a master’s program, the Department of Arabic and African Languages and Literature is divided into the Department of Arabic Language and Literature and the Department of African Language and Literature.
The Department of Arabic and African Languages and Literature for doctoral students is renamed as the Department of Arabic Language and Literature.
In a master’s program, the Department of Industrial Engineering is renamed as the Department of Industrial and Information Systems Engineering.
Instead of offering M.A/Ph.D. in Literature for all students in Departments of Linguistics and Literatures, students with concentration in Linguistics will receive M.A/Ph.D. in Linguistics and students in Literature will receive M.A/Ph.D. in Literature.
Students with concentration in Linguistics and Cognitive Science, and Linguistics will receive a degree of M.A/Ph.D. in Linguistics, instead of M.A/Ph.D. in Literature.

In a doctoral program, the Department of Archives and Information (concentration in Archives, Ph.D. in Literature) is established.
The degree earned from the Department of Communication and Information is renamed as M.A/Ph.D. in Communication, instead of M.A/Ph.D. in Political Science.

The HUFS Graduate School’s school regulations, detailed enforcement regulations, and rules on degree conferral are modified.
The Department of TESOL for doctoral students is established. In a master’s program, the Department of Arabic Language and Literature and the Department of Middle East Languages and Literature are combined as the Department of Middle East Languages and Literature.
Also, the number of master’s students is reduced from 409 to 379 by 30 students and the number of doctoral students is increased from 115 to 145 by 30 students.

The HUFS Graduate School’s school regulations, detailed enforcement regulations, and rules on degree conferral are modified.
The Department of Culture and Contents (concentration in Culture and Contents, M.A. in Literature) is established for doctoral students. In both master’s and doctoral programs, a concentration in Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language (M.A/Ph.D. in Literature) in the Department of Korean Language and Literature is established.
Also, the department title and degree earned from the Department of Trade (concentration in Trade, M.S/Ph.D. in Business Administration) is renamed the Department of International Economics and Law (concentration in Economics and Law, M.A/Ph.D. in Economics).

The Department of Hispanic Language and Literature is renamed as the Department of Spanish Language and Literature, in both master’s and doctoral programs.

The HUFS Graduate School’s school regulations, detailed enforcement regulations, and rules on degree conferral are modified.
In both master’s and doctoral programs, the Department of English Linguistics (concentration in English Linguistics, M.A/Ph.D. in Linguistics) and the Department of English Literature (concentration in English Literature, M.A/Ph.D. in Literature) are established. The Department of English Language and Literature, Korean Studies, Chinese Studies, and Russian Studies offered in both degree programs are discontinued. In a master’s program, the Department of Industrial and Information Systems Engineering is renamed as Industrial and Management Engineering and a concentration in Management Engineering (M.S in Engineering) is established.
Finally, the limit on the number of Comprehensive Exam retake is abolished.

In a doctoral program, the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering (concentration in Industrial and Information System Engineering and in Management Technology, Ph.D. in Engineering) is established.

In a master’s program, Bulgarian Linguistics (M.A. in Linguistics) and Bulgarian Literature (M.A. in Literature) are established in the Department of Central and East European Languages and Literatures. In both master’s and doctoral degree programs, the Department of International Business (concentration in International Business, M.S/Ph.D. in Business Administration) is established.

The HUFS Graduate School’s school regulations and rules on degree conferral are modified.
Regarding students entering the school from the spring semester of 2010, there will be 285 master’s students in Humanities and Social Science areas (Seoul Campus) and 60 master’s students in Natural Science and Engineering areas (Global Campus). In a doctoral program, there will be 130 students in Humanities and Social Science areas (Seoul Campus) and 15 students in Natural Science and Engineering areas (Global Campus). In both master’s and doctoral programs, M.A/Ph.D. in Culture and Contents is renamed as Global Culture and Contents. Instead of offering students M.A/Ph.D. in Literature, the school offers M.A/Ph.D. in Culture and Contents.

The HUFS Graduate School’s detailed enforcement regulations are modified.
Pursuant to an enforcement ordinance of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology on tuition and entrance fees, the HUFS Graduate School decides to reduce tuition fees.

The HUFS Graduate School’s school regulations and rules on degree conferral are modified.
For students entering the school from 2011, TESOL Method is renamed as English Language Teaching in the Department of TESOL and students will receive M.A/Ph.D. in Literature instead of TESOL Method.

The HUFS Graduate School’s school regulations and detailed enforcement regulations are modified.
Amended regulations state that the school may impose expulsion to students who score below a grade point average of 3.0 twice.
Moreover, with recommendations from the academic advisor, a student can take the Thesis Guidance course (Master’s student: Thesis I, Doctoral student: Thesis II) in the semester of their dissertation submission.
