For students entering the school from the spring semester of 2000, the degree of M.A/Ph.D. in Political Science, Economics, and Literature acquired from the Department of International Affairs is changed as M.A. in International Affairs.
Master’s students, who have registered for at least three (3) semesters (a minimum of 15 credit hours), are eligible to take Comprehensive Exam, rather than both passing the foreign language exam and having registered for at least three (3) semesters (a minimum of 24 credit hours). Doctoral students, who have registered for at least three (3) semesters (a minimum of 18 credit hours), are eligible to take Comprehensive Exam, rather than both passing the foreign language exam and having registered for at least four (4) semesters (a minimum of 36 credit hours).
For all students entering the school from 2000, master’s research students need to have completed the course work more than 1 semester ago (6 months) and pay 20% of the semester’s tuition and doctoral research students need to have completed the course work 2 semesters ago (1 year) and pay 30% of the semester’s tuition.

A concentration in Linguistics is established in the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Sciences in both master’s and doctoral programs. In a master’s program, the Department of Arabic and African Languages and Literature is divided into the Department of Arabic Language and Literature and the Department of African Language and Literature. The Department of Arabic and African Languages and Literature for doctoral students is renamed as the Department of Arabic Language and Literature.
In a master’s program, the Department of Industrial Engineering is renamed as the Department of Industrial and Information Systems Engineering. Instead of offering M.A/Ph.D. in Literature for all students in Departments of Linguistics and Literatures, students with concentration in Linguistics will receive M.A/Ph.D. in Linguistics and students in Literature will receive M.A/Ph.D. in Literature.
Students with concentration in Linguistics and Cognitive Science, and Linguistics will receive a degree of M.A/Ph.D. in Linguistics, instead of M.A/Ph.D. in Literature.

The HUFS Graduate School’s school regulations and detailed enforcement regulations are modified. Amended regulations state that the school may impose expulsion to students who score below a grade point average of 3.0 twice.
Moreover, with recommendations from the academic advisor, a student can take the Thesis Guidance course (Master’s student: Thesis I, Doctoral student: Thesis II) in the semester of their dissertation submission.
