- GSIAS is an area-specific graduate school which offers the most diverse programs of any university in Korea across the whole range of social science disciplines: political science, economics, and social and cultural aspects of all reasons of the world.
- Regarding the tuition fee, GSIAS offers the highest percentage of scholarships among all area studies graduate schools in Korea, and it actually provides scholarships to all students.
- GSIAS has an experienced corps of Korean professors proficient in regional languages combined with expert knowledge in the social sciences. It also has a number of full-time professors who are native speakers of regional languages.

2) Degree Requirements
- A minimum of 40 credit hours (45 hours for U-PEACE and HUFS-KOICA SP) as advised by program supervisor with the minimum grade point average of 3.00 out of the maximum of 4.50 points
- Two years (four semesters) of residence for coursework
- Proficiency test in the foreign language
- A thesis written under the supervision of an advisory professor in the department
- Oral defense of the thesis conducted under a committee of 3 professors

2) Degree Requirements
- A minimum of 36 credit hours as advised by program supervisor with the minimum grade point average of 3.00 out of the maximum of 4.50 points
- Two years (four semesters) of residence for course work
- One year of Thesis Guidance after course work
- A qualifying examination in 3 selected fields
- Proficiency test in the foreign language
- Dissertation proposal defense conducted under a committee of 3 professors
- A dissertation written under the supervision of an advisory professor in the department
- Oral defense of the dissertation conducted under a committee of 5 professors

- Master's Program : Applicants having obtained (or expected to obtain) a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Korea or an overseas country
- Doctoral Program : Applicants having obtained (or expected to obtain) a Master's degree in related fields or its equivalent in Korea or an overseas country
